Ever felt like you're 'stuck in a lift'....going up and down and can't get out....??
Metaphorically or otherwise, it becomes a source of frustration, being 'stuck in a lift'. I suppose the time could be used productively, like writing the first line of that novel you promised yourself, writing a list of 'to do's', meditating, penning a sonnet to your loved one ;). Instead we can become frustrated and intent on 'getting out', banging on the door when the phone in the lift is out of order.....ironically so.
So, take a deep breath.....1,2,3,4
- hold it....5,6,7
- and breathe out......8,9
- how does it feel?....
- just the same...???
- hold it....5,6,7
- and breathe out...8,9
- how does it feel....?
Keep me in the here and now
So that I can pause and breathe
Shaking away the remnants
Of this morning's penetrating
Thoughts....
Before I could even
Before I could even
Blink an eye or
Raise a smile, the dirge
Of the past weeks
Played on
Take a little time to pause...for a moment.....and breathe.
And so to try it.......employing some stealth movements, catching mood moments unawares, highjacked by the pause button, hitting it before it could complain. Resting the restless just for a moment or two, practice makes perfect....so they say.
Yep, the anxiety could recede, splintering the burgeoning panic...subsiding, when fragile mind may have been overtaken with confusion, collapsing in a pile. Make time, therefore, to become in the here and now, backing out of the 'stuck in a lift' mode, where panic threatens to overtake and have its day.
Take a moment
Steal it from your worrying
Warrior, pack a bag
And elope for just a while
Relax on the beach of
Sanity, aware of
Your surroundings...only
Stay, book a sunbed
Feel it
The warmth of tranquility
Its heat penetrating
Your skin, forming a
Comforting layer
Covering you like a
Warm duvet
Encircling your mind, body and soul
Hold it for a second
Or two longer
Remembering the feeling
Of security saturation
Consolidate the journey
Recalling the wherewithal
To buy a season ticket
For this destination
Of self care
What to do when we feel anxiety and panic rising....breathe in deeply, hold, breathe out.....and repeat.....it just might buy you enough time to change your mind.
xx
